The department of History offers the following degree programs:
- Bachelor degrees in History and Early History
Special interdisciplinary Master program:
- Cultural History of the Middle Ages
Students of History will find a wide range of courses in the following sub-fields:
- Early History
- Roman and Greek History
- The Middle Ages
- Modern and Contemporary History
- Bavarian History
- Southeast and East European History
Exchange students are free to choose courses and modules throughout the offered degree programs depending on their qualifications and the requirements of their home institutions. Credit Allocation:
A regular module consists of several courses e.g. 1 or 2 lectures, a seminar and a practical course. Each course finishes with an examination (either oral or written) and is allocated a number of credits. For the exact credit allocation please consult the module catalogue . Exchange students are free to choose individual courses within a module depending on the course content and do not need to complete an entire module.

Course Descriptions:
The general course catalogue (Vorlesungsverzeichnis) provides you with a list of all courses offered during a semester. However, it contains only the course title, the name of the instructor, and the day and hour the course is offered, as well as the module signature. For further information on a specific course, you need to see the commented course catalogue of the department: kommentiertes Vorlesungsverzeichnis . This is a far more detailed catalogue with information on office hours, reading lists, prerequisites, and course descriptions. Registration for courses:
Exchange students are expected to participate in the orientation program which is organised by the International Office before the begin of the semester. Please arrive in time for this program as you will receive all information on registration and course selection during the first days of the program. |
